Harry Chandler, Pearl Harbor Survivor and Navy Medic, Dies at 103; Third Death in Recent Weeks Leaves 15 Survivors
Jan 1, 2025, 06:00 AM
Harry Chandler, a Navy medic who survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, has died at the age of 103. Chandler, who was a hospital corpsman 3rd class during the attack, passed away on Monday at a senior living center in Tequesta, Florida due to congestive heart failure, though his advanced age was noted as a contributing factor to his death. He was one of the few remaining survivors of the attack, which killed more than 2,300 U.S. servicemen. During the attack, Chandler helped pull injured sailors from the oily waters of Pearl Harbor. His death marks the third Pearl Harbor survivor to die in recent weeks, leaving only 15 survivors still living.
