Russia and Ukraine Each Return 90 Prisoners of War in UAE-Mediated Swap on Tuesday
Jun 25, 2024, 07:00 PM
Russia and Ukraine have each returned 90 prisoners of war in a swap mediated by the United Arab Emirates, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. The exchange, confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, saw 90 Russian military personnel, who were in mortal danger in captivity, returned from territory controlled by Ukraine. In exchange, 90 prisoners of war were transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian prisoners include soldiers from the National Guard, Navy, Army, border guards, and defenders of Mariupol, Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and various fronts in Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk. This marks the 53rd prisoner exchange since the outbreak of the full-scale war. The UAE's mediation efforts succeeded in the exchange of 180 captives between Russia and Ukraine.
