Dec 27, 2024, 01:04 AM
Kansas State defeated Rutgers 44-41 in the Rate Bowl at Chase Field, marking the highest scoring bowl game in Kansas State history. The Wildcats overcame a 17-point second-half deficit, rallying from a 34-17 score midway through the third quarter. Running back Dylan Edwards led the comeback, setting a Kansas State record for most rushing yards in a bowl game with 196 yards on 18 carries and scoring three touchdowns. Quarterback Avery Johnson contributed significantly, tying Ell Roberson and Will Howard for the most touchdown passes in a single season for Kansas State. Rutgers dominated the first half, leading 27-17 at halftime and accumulating 319 yards, with running back Antwan Raymond scoring three touchdowns and quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis connecting with Ian Strong for a 60-yard gain. However, the Scarlet Knights were held to just 82 yards in the second half as Kansas State's defense tightened. Despite Rutgers' early advantage, the Wildcats' explosive offense amassed 535 total yards, securing the victory. The win marked Kansas State's third bowl victory in four years, concluding their season with a 9-4 record.
