Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz is set to present principles for a new military conscription law aimed at enlisting 50% of eligible Haredi men within seven years. The plan includes a target to recruit 4,800 Haredim in the first year and 5,700 in the following year, alongside sanctions for those who evade service, including penalties for yeshivas whose students do not comply. Protests have erupted among ultra-Orthodox groups, with demonstrations occurring at military recruitment centers as approximately 1,000 Haredi individuals who received draft orders six months ago have not reported for duty. Authorities have warned that failure to comply could result in being declared draft dodgers and facing arrest warrants.
