IRGC General Kiomars Pourhashemi Killed in Aleppo, Syria Amid Ongoing Clashes with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
Nov 30, 2024, 09:57 AM
Brigadier General Kiomars Pourhashemi, a senior military advisor of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in Syria amid ongoing clashes between Syrian government forces and opposition groups. Reports indicate that he died during fighting near Aleppo, where anti-Assad forces, including the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have been active. The IRGC confirmed his death and described him as a military advisor to the Syrian regime. In Tehran, a funeral was held for Pourhashemi, who was honored as a martyr. Major General Hossein Salami, the commander-in-chief of the IRGC, visited the remains of Pourhashemi and accused Israel of orchestrating chaos in Syria, asserting that the recent jihadist offensive is part of a broader plan by Israel and the United States. Salami emphasized that the attackers are led by those who previously suffered defeats in Gaza and Lebanon, indicating a strategic link between these conflicts and the current situation in Syria.
