EU and UK Sanction IRISL, Iran Air, and Port Olya-3 Over Military Support to Russia in Ukraine War on November 18, 2024
Nov 18, 2024, 01:30 PM
The European Union has expanded its sanctions against Iran, citing the country's military support for Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. The new measures, announced on November 18, 2024, include a prohibition on the export of components used in the development of missiles and drones, as well as a transaction ban with Iranian ports. The sanctions specifically target the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its director, Mohammad Reza Khiabani. Additionally, the EU's sanctions encompass all vessels and ports used to transfer drones and missiles to Russia. Concurrently, the United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on Iran Air and IRISL, along with the Russian vessel Port Olya-3, in response to Iran's alleged transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is expected to address these sanctions during his upcoming visit to the G20 in New York.
