UN Report: Over 600 Female Athletes Lost Nearly 900 Medals to Transgender Women Competitors
Oct 23, 2024, 01:00 PM
A United Nations report on "Violence against women and girls in sports" has revealed that over 600 female athletes worldwide have lost more than 890 medals to transgender women competitors. The study found that as of March 30, 2024, these athletes were defeated in more than 400 women's division events across 29 different sports. The report highlights concerns that the inclusion of transgender women in women's sports may disadvantage cisgender female athletes, emphasizing that "the replacement of the female sports category with a 'self-identifying' category disadvantages female athletes." The findings have prompted renewed calls for policy discussions regarding transgender athletes' participation in women's sports, raising concerns over fairness and the integrity of female athletic competitions.
