Burkina Faso Investigates Alleged War Crimes, Blocks HRW and Media Outlets
Apr 28, 2024, 09:05 AM
The government of Burkina Faso has responded to allegations of war crimes involving the summary execution of 223 villagers by its security forces. Human Rights Watch reported these incidents, accusing the forces of possible crimes against humanity. In reaction, the Burkina Faso government blocked access to HRW's website and suspended independent media outlets like VOA Afrique and BBC Africa. However, the government has also announced that it is investigating the killings in the northern region of the country. Meanwhile, the government has dismissed the HRW report as 'baseless'.
