Blinken Unveils Gaza Post-War Plan Involving Palestinian Authority and Reunification
Jan 14, 2025, 03:55 PM
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented a detailed post-war plan for Gaza on Tuesday at the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C. The plan, which Blinken said would be handed over to the incoming Trump administration, aims to facilitate Israel's complete withdrawal from Gaza, prevent Hamas from regaining control, and ensure the governance, security, and reconstruction of the region. Key elements include the establishment of an interim administration in Gaza, led by the Palestinian Authority (PA) with the involvement of international partners and Arab countries. Blinken emphasized the necessity of a reformed PA taking over governance responsibilities, including health, education, and economic coordination with Israel. The plan also proposes an interim security mission composed of forces from partner nations and vetted Palestinian personnel, overseen by a senior UN official, to maintain stability and support recovery efforts. Blinken stressed that Israel must accept the reunification of Gaza and the West Bank under a reformed PA as part of a pathway to an independent Palestinian state.
