VisitIntel to Build World's Largest Chip Factory in Ohio by 2030, Aiming for AI Era Leadership
May 2, 2024, 12:58 PM
Intel is aggressively expanding its operations with a significant investment aimed at revamping its competitive stance in the global semiconductor industry. The company's CEO announced plans to grow the foundry market from $110 billion to $240 billion by 2030, positioning Intel to become the largest system foundry for the AI era and the second-largest overall. Intel is committing $28 billion to develop Ohio into a major hub for chip manufacturing, which includes the construction of what could be the world's largest chip factory, dubbed Ohio One. This initiative follows years of being outpaced by competitors and is supported by the Biden administration. Notably, Intel's previously opened plant, Fab 42 in Arizona, which broke ground in 2011 and was completed in 2013, sat idle for 7 years as the company struggled.
