California Withdraws EPA Requests for Diesel Truck and Locomotive Emission Rules Ahead of Trump Administration
Jan 15, 2025, 12:06 AM
California has withdrawn its requests for federal waivers from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to enforce state-level rules aimed at phasing out diesel-powered trucks and locomotives. The decision comes in anticipation of the incoming Trump administration, which is expected to deny these requests. The rules, approved by the California Air Resources Board, included a ban on new diesel-powered semi-trucks starting in 2036 and a mandate to phase out locomotive engines over 23 years old by 2030. The withdrawal reflects the state's strategic retreat as it braces for potential opposition from the new federal government.
