Goods Train Collides with Kanchenjunga Express in Siliguri, 5 Dead, 20-30 Injured

A tragic train collision occurred on the morning of June 17, 2024, when a goods train rammed into the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express at Rangapani station near New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district. The collision, which happened around 9 am, resulted in the derailment of at least two compartments of the passenger train, causing significant damage. Initial reports indicate that at least five passengers have died, and between 20 to 30 others have been injured. The accident site includes areas such as Siliguri, Phansidewa, and Ruidhasa. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have expressed their condolences and are overseeing the rescue operations. Emergency services, including the NDRF and SDRF, are on-site, and the injured are being transported to nearby hospitals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu have also expressed their grief over the incident.
