Jon M. Chu to Direct Britney Spears Biopic With Spears' Involvement, Based on $15M Memoir Deal

Director Jon M. Chu, known for his work on 'Wicked,' is set to direct a biopic about Britney Spears based on her 2023 memoir, 'The Woman In Me.' Chu has confirmed that Spears will play an active role in the production, stating, "She’s going to be very involved." The project, currently in its early stages, is being developed by Universal Pictures, which acquired the adaptation rights to Spears’ memoir in a $15M book deal. The book, a #1 New York Times bestseller, explores Spears’ rise to stardom, her childhood, and her 13-year conservatorship, and has sold over 2.5M copies. Chu expressed his commitment to doing justice to Spears’ story, emphasizing his admiration for her as a cultural icon. The film’s casting and script development are yet to begin, with Chu considering various approaches to the story. Marc Platt, who worked with Chu on 'Wicked,' will produce the film.
