VisitTikTok Cracks Down on State-Backed Misinformation to Foster Authenticity: New York Times
May 23, 2024, 01:30 PM
TikTok has launched a new crackdown on state-backed misinformation accounts ahead of the upcoming European and US elections. The social media giant is targeting covert influence operations and state-affiliated media, including Russian and Chinese outlets. New measures include limiting the spread of videos from these accounts, barring their videos from users' main feeds outside their home country, and prohibiting them from advertising outside their home countries. TikTok disrupted 15 influence operations from January to April 2024 as part of this effort. The company aims to counter foreign influence and foster authenticity on its platform during this crucial election year, according to the New York Times.
