Fernanda Torres Becomes First Brazilian to Win Golden Globe for Best Actress as Eunice Paiva in 'I'm Still Here'
Jan 6, 2025, 11:57 AM
Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres has won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for her role as Eunice Paiva in the film 'I'm Still Here,' directed by Walter Salles. Torres, aged 59, became the first Brazilian actress to win in this category, surpassing notable competitors such as Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Pamela Anderson, Tilda Swinton, and Kate Winslet. In her acceptance speech, Torres dedicated the award to her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who was nominated in the same category 25 years ago for 'Central Station.' Montenegro, now 95, also appears in 'I'm Still Here' as the older version of Eunice Paiva. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the best screenplay award, tells the story of Eunice Paiva, a woman dealing with the disappearance of her husband during Brazil's military dictatorship. 'I'm Still Here' has also been nominated for best foreign language film at the Golden Globes and is Brazil's entry for the best international feature film at the Oscars.
