The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the allocation of $1.6 billion in environmental justice grant funding, marking the largest investment of its kind in U.S. history. A total of 84 recipients will benefit from this funding, which is aimed at providing financial and technical assistance to low-income and disadvantaged communities under the Inflation Reduction Act. Notable grants include $106.18 million awarded to the West Virginia Office of Energy, $104.13 million to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and $93.67 million to Hope Enterprise Corporation. Other recipients include the Oregon Department of Energy, which received $86.6 million, and the Vermont Public Service Department, which was granted $70.65 million. Additional grants of $62.45 million each were awarded to various organizations, including the Maryland Clean Energy Center, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and the Alaska Energy Authority, among others.
