The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the alerts were triggered by a massive controlled explosion in southern Lebanon that destroyed a Hezbollah arms and ammunition complex. The explosion, significant enough to set off the earthquake warning system, was part of an IDF operation targeting Hezbollah positions.
