Ukraine Shuts Down 7 of 9 Nuclear Reactors After Russian Missile Attack, IAEA Says
Nov 17, 2024, 01:50 PM
Ukraine has powered down most of its remaining operational nuclear reactors following a massive overnight Russian missile and drone attack. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the country shut down 7 of its 9 operating reactors. The IAEA has expressed concerns about the vulnerability of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which directly impacts nuclear safety and security. Observers stationed at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant reported that high-voltage power lines are now unavailable, and reactor generation has been reduced by 40% to 90%. The IAEA said that the situation is critical. Bloomberg also reported on the incident.
