U.S. Department of Labor Sues Hyundai Over Child Labor in Alabama
May 30, 2024, 05:56 PM
The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a lawsuit against South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co., an auto parts plant, and a labor recruiter for the illegal use of child labor in Alabama, according to a court filing. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday, alleges that a 13-year-old was employed at an Alabama auto-parts supplier and worked up to 60 hours a week. This marks the first time the Department of Labor is holding a major company liable for child labor at a subsidiary. The department is also seeking an order requiring the companies to relinquish profits related to the use of child labor.
