Australian Woman Trapped Upside Down for 7 Hours in Hunter Valley While Retrieving Phone
Oct 22, 2024, 04:30 PM
Earlier this month, an Australian woman was rescued after spending seven hours trapped upside down between two boulders in a narrow crevice while trying to retrieve her phone in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. The 23-year-old, identified as Matilda Campbell, was taking pictures with friends in the wine region north of Sydney when she dropped her phone into a three-meter-deep gap. She slipped head-first into the crevice while attempting to recover the device and ended up hanging by her feet. Her friends spent an hour trying to free her before contacting emergency services. Rescuers used specialist equipment, including a winch to move a 500kg boulder, to extricate her. Campbell sustained only minor scratches and bruises, but her phone was not recovered.
