Usyk Requests IBF Exception to Retain Undisputed Heavyweight Title for Fury Rematch
May 24, 2024, 02:00 PM
Oleksandr Usyk has officially requested an exception from the IBF to retain his heavyweight world title for his rematch against Tyson Fury. Usyk's promoter, Alex Krassyuk, confirmed that Team Usyk will make the request to prevent him from being stripped of his title, thus keeping the undisputed championship on the line. This comes after Usyk's recent victory over Tyson Fury. Eddie Hearn expressed uncertainty about whether Usyk will be stripped of the title in time for it to be contested in the Filip Hrgovic vs. Daniel Dubois fight on June 1st. IBF President Daryl Peoples has confirmed the receipt of Usyk's request, which aims to bypass his IBF mandatory challenger, Filip Hrgovic.
