Instagram-Famous Squirrel Peanut with Half a Million Followers Seized by New York Authorities
Oct 31, 2024, 09:32 PM
Peanut, an Instagram-famous squirrel with half a million followers, was seized by New York state authorities. The seizure occurred on Wednesday morning at the home of Mark Longo in Pine City, New York. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) acted on multiple anonymous complaints about the squirrel. Six DEC officers arrived with a search warrant and also seized a raccoon. Peanut, also known as 'P'nut the Squirrel,' had been with Longo for seven years and inspired him to start an animal sanctuary. Longo spoke out on Thursday, less than a day after the seizure, and is now trying to get Peanut back.
