Arizona Supreme Court to Decide Eligibility of 97,000 Voters After Registration Error
Sep 17, 2024, 04:27 PM
Arizona officials have discovered that nearly 100,000 longtime residents were marked as eligible to vote in state and local elections without providing proof of citizenship, which is required by law. This error, which dates back decades and affects 97,000 voters who lean more heavily GOP, was detected just before ballots are set to go out. The Arizona Supreme Court may decide on the eligibility of these voters. Maricopa County officials identified the issue as stemming from a quirk in the Motor Vehicle Division's system, which counties use for voter registration purposes. The Maricopa County Recorder's Office is suing the Arizona Secretary of State's office over how to handle these voters. The newly detected administrative issue found 97,000 voting registrants had access to the wrong ballot.
