Jan 15, 2025, 12:41 PM
Spain set a new record in 2024 by welcoming 94 million foreign tourists, a 10% increase from the previous year, according to the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism. The tourists contributed a record-breaking 126 billion euros to the economy, marking a 16% rise in spending compared to 2023. Jordi Hereu, the tourism minister, highlighted that the tourism sector accounts for 13% of Spain's economy. The surge in tourism is a positive development for Spain's economy, which is expected to grow by 3.1% in 2024, significantly higher than the projected 0.8% for the Eurozone. Looking ahead, the ministry anticipates a continued growth trend, expecting to receive 26 million foreign tourists in the first four months of 2025, a 9% increase over the same period in 2024, with their spending projected to reach 36 billion euros, a 16% increase.
