Harvey Weinstein's Retrial Consolidated, Delayed to 2025 Amid Cancer Diagnosis and New Accuser
Oct 23, 2024, 03:02 PM
Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer, made his first court appearance since his bone marrow cancer diagnosis was made public. On October 23, 2024, he appeared in a Manhattan court where a judge ruled to consolidate two sex crime cases against him into a single trial, agreeing with prosecutors that duplicative trials would waste judicial resources. An additional accuser has been added to the case, prompting Weinstein's lawyer to announce plans to hire a private investigator to look into the new allegation. Weinstein, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison following his 2020 conviction, remains incarcerated despite the New York Court of Appeals overturning his conviction in April. His retrial has been moved to 2025. Weinstein denies all allegations against him.
