Sai Varshith Kandula Sentenced to 8 Years for Attempted White House Attack Driven by Nazi Ideology
Jan 17, 2025, 04:06 AM
Sai Varshith Kandula, a 20-year-old Indian national from Missouri, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for an attempted attack on the White House. On May 22, 2023, Kandula crashed a rented U-Haul truck into barriers near the White House, aiming to overthrow the U.S. government and replace it with a Nazi-style dictatorship. After the crash, he brandished a Nazi flag, expressing his admiration for Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. Kandula's actions were driven by his fascination with Nazi ideology, and he admitted to investigators that he would have arranged for the killing of the U.S. President if necessary to achieve his objectives. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay nearly $57,000 in restitution. Kandula, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, pleaded guilty to a property damage charge and has remained in custody since his arrest.
