FCC Proposes Cybersecurity Regulations for Telecoms, Mandating Annual Certification

The proposal, made in her final days as chair, would require telecom carriers to secure their networks from hackers or face potential fines. This move is based on a legal interpretation of a U.S. wiretapping law. Additionally, the FCC is considering rules that would mandate carriers to submit an annual certification attesting to their cybersecurity measures. The initiative comes amidst growing pressure from the federal government to address cybersecurity threats, particularly from Chinese government hackers.
