BYD Launches First Plug-In Hybrid Pickup Truck, the Shark, in Mexico
May 14, 2024, 04:28 PM
BYD, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in China, has launched its first plug-in hybrid pickup truck, the Shark, in Mexico. This debut marks a significant move for BYD as it aims to penetrate the North American market, particularly on the doorstep of the world's largest pickup market, the United States. Despite this strategic entry, BYD has no current plans to sell the Shark in the U.S. market. Chinese brands, including BYD, account for about 87% of electric vehicle sales in South America and 20% in Mexico. The global launch event took place in Mexico City on Tuesday, amid rising U.S. tariffs on EVs.
