According to sources familiar with the matter, Sony Group is in talks to acquire Kadokawa Corporation, the Japanese media conglomerate and owner of game developer FromSoftware, renowned for titles such as Elden Ring, the Dark Souls series, and Bloodborne. Kadokawa also publishes anime and manga, and owns other game development studios like Spike Chunsoft and Acquire. The potential acquisition aims to bolster Sony's entertainment portfolio, particularly in gaming and media distribution. Both Sony and Kadokawa have declined to comment, with Kadokawa stating that "nothing has been decided at this moment." Kadokawa's stock closed up by 23% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, reaching its daily limit high, while Sony's stock saw a modest increase of 0.63%. The negotiations are ongoing, with a potential deal expected in the coming weeks. Kadokawa had a market capitalization of approximately $2.7 billion.
