Indonesia Bans Sale of Apple's iPhone 16 Over Unmet $109M Investment and 40% Local Content Rule
Oct 28, 2024, 09:57 AM
Apple Inc. has been banned from selling its latest iPhone 16 models in Indonesia after failing to meet the country's domestic content requirements, as stated by the Industry Ministry. The Indonesian government blocked the sale of Apple's flagship phones, citing that the company only partially fulfilled its $109 million investment commitment and did not comply with the 40% local content rule for smartphones. This move is part of Indonesia's efforts to push more foreign companies to invest and manufacture onshore. While Apple can still import iPhone 16 devices for personal use if taxes are paid, the ban prevents commercial sales in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
