VisitUK CMA Clears Google-Anthropic AI Partnership from Investigation
Nov 19, 2024, 12:30 PM
Britain's competition watchdog, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), announced on November 19 that the partnership between Google-parent Alphabet and artificial intelligence startup Anthropic does not qualify for investigation under the merger provisions. The CMA determined that Google has not gained 'material influence' over Anthropic following a formal probe. Consequently, the partnership has avoided further scrutiny and a full-blown investigation. $GOOGL shares were down 0.5% pre-market following the announcement.
