Ford to Invest $3 Billion in F-Series Super Duty Truck Production at Canadian Facility by 2026
Jul 18, 2024, 12:02 PM
Ford Motor Company has announced a significant shift in its manufacturing strategy, pivoting from its initial electric vehicle (EV) plans to focus on heavy-duty trucks at its Canadian facility. On July 18, the company outlined plans to use the Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, originally earmarked for EV production, to assemble F-Series Super Duty pickups starting in 2026. This move is expected to secure about 1,800 Canadian jobs at Oakville and approximately 150 jobs at the Windsor Engine Complex. Additionally, the production expansion will secure about 70 jobs and additional overtime at U.S. component plants. Ford plans to invest approximately $3 billion in this expansion. Unifor-represented employees at Oakville will return to work in 2026, one year earlier than previously planned. The decision comes in response to surging demand from Ford Pro customers for Super Duty trucks.
