Apple to Use In-House Wi-Fi 7 Chips in iPhone 17, Reducing Reliance on Broadcom's 300 Million Chips Annually by 2H25
Oct 31, 2024, 02:08 PM
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Apple Inc. ($AAPL) plans to significantly reduce its reliance on Broadcom Inc. ($AVGO) for Wi-Fi chips. Starting in the second half of 2025, with the launch of the iPhone 17, Apple will begin using its own Wi-Fi 7 chips, which are to be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ($TSM). Currently, Broadcom supplies over 300 million Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips annually to Apple, but this transition marks a strategic shift towards in-house production to enhance control over its supply chain and technology. The new chips will support a broader range of Apple products, reinforcing the company's long-term goal of moving away from third-party suppliers.
