LanceDB, an open-source database tailored for multimodal AI applications, has secured $8 million in seed funding led by CRV, with additional backing from Y Combinator, Essence Venture, and Swift Ventures. The total funding now stands at $11 million. LanceDB, founded by Chang She and Lei Xu, is designed to empower AI teams to easily search over billions of vectors, process petabytes of images, and train on trillions of tokens. The database is used by notable companies such as Midjourney, Character.ai, and Airtable.
