Taiwan is set to introduce a NT$110 million drone chip research and development subsidy program in 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the production of essential drone components, including AI imaging chips and low-cost flight controllers. The move comes in response to Beijing's impending export controls on drone components, which will take effect on January 25, 2024. Taiwan seeks to position itself as a key player in the drone supply chain for democratic allies, especially amid ongoing geopolitical tensions exacerbated by Russia's war against Ukraine. Additionally, plans are underway for a large UAV testing facility in Chiayi County to further bolster Taiwan's capabilities in the global drone market.
