Wyden's 2-Year Senate Report Uncovers Systemic Abuse in Youth Treatment Facilities
Jun 12, 2024, 01:02 PM
The Senate Finance Committee has released a report titled 'Warehouses of Neglect: How Taxpayers Are Funding Systemic Abuse in Youth Residential Treatment Facilities.' The investigation, led by Chairman Ron Wyden, uncovered severe physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, as well as inadequate care, at federally-funded youth residential treatment facilities. The report reveals that these facilities often leave children more traumatized than when they entered, highlighting cases of unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The findings are the result of a 2-year investigation. Wyden emphasized the need to end taxpayer-funded child abuse and called for immediate action.
