Yankees Sign Max Fried to Record Eight-Year, $218 Million Deal
Dec 10, 2024, 10:56 PM
Max Fried, a left-handed pitcher and former Atlanta Braves ace, has agreed to an eight-year, $218 million contract with the New York Yankees, pending a physical, according to multiple reports including ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal represents the largest guarantee in baseball history for a left-handed pitcher and the fourth-largest pitching contract overall. Fried will earn $27.25 million per year over the next eight years. The Yankees view Fried as a postseason No. 2 starter and see his addition as a significant boost to their rotation. Fried's signing came after competition from the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays for his services. The Red Sox made a serious run at Fried, but the Yankees' bid was reportedly "significantly ahead" of Boston's offer. A rival American League executive commented that the Yankees' rotation is now "pretty scary at the top."
