CDC: 9 Dead, 57 Hospitalized in Largest Listeria Outbreak Since 2011 Linked to Boar's Head
Aug 28, 2024, 09:38 PM
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a significant listeria outbreak linked to Boar's Head deli meats, resulting in nine deaths, 57 hospitalizations, and 14 new illnesses across multiple states, including Florida, Tennessee, New Mexico, South Carolina, and New York. This outbreak, which began in early August, is the largest since the 2011 listeriosis outbreak linked to cantaloupe. The outbreak led to a massive recall of over 7 million pounds of deli meats. Federal inspectors found numerous violations at a Boar's Head plant in Virginia, including mold, mildew, and insects, contributing to the contamination.
