Taylor County Sheriff Urges Perry, Fla. Residents to Mark Skin Amid 20 Feet Surge from Hurricane Helene
Sep 27, 2024, 12:04 AM
The Taylor County Sheriff's Office in Florida has issued a dire request to residents who have defied mandatory evacuation orders ahead of Hurricane Helene. Authorities are asking those who stayed behind to write their name, date of birth, and other important information on their arm or leg with a permanent marker. This measure is intended to help identify individuals in case of fatalities or the need for rescue. Hurricane Helene is expected to bring catastrophic conditions, including up to 20 feet of storm surge, posing severe risks to those remaining in the area. Despite the gravity of the situation, some residents have chosen not to evacuate, prompting this sobering advisory from local law enforcement. The request has been made specifically in Perry, Fla., and the Big Bend area. Governor Ron DeSantis has not endorsed this plea.
