Newsom Invites Trump to Tour Wildfire Devastation in Los Angeles County's Pacific Palisades
Jan 10, 2025, 10:43 PM
California Governor Gavin Newsom has invited President-elect Donald Trump to visit the state and witness the devastation caused by recent wildfires in Los Angeles County, particularly in Pacific Palisades. In a letter addressed to Trump, Newsom emphasized the need for leaders to work together in the best interests of the hundreds of thousands of Americans displaced by the fires, rather than politicizing the tragedy or spreading disinformation. The invitation comes in the wake of Trump's criticism of Newsom, whom he blamed for the wildfires. At least ten deaths have been reported due to the fires. Newsom's letter recalls a previous visit by Trump to California in 2018 to survey damage from the Camp Fire, highlighting the ongoing challenge of natural disasters in the state. President Biden has already approved a major disaster declaration for the affected areas.
