Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act Introduced Amidst Historic Assembly on International Domestic Workers Day
Jun 16, 2024, 11:18 AM
Senator Lujan introduced the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act alongside Senator Gillibrand, Representative Jayapal, and the organization Domestic Workers. The bill aims to ensure fair treatment for domestic workers, who are considered the backbone of communities. In Miami, a historic assembly was held by nannies, house cleaners, and home health aides to support the bill, with participation from domestic workers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., organized by MiamiWorkersCtr and WeCount_Fl. The event coincided with International Domestic Workers Day 2024, which highlighted the crucial role domestic workers play in the economy and the need for their dignity and fair compensation. Chrispin Kimani from CDTD and Blandina Bobson from Oxfam Kenya emphasized the importance of recognizing and respecting domestic workers' contributions.
