US DOE Authorizes Altamira LNG Exports to Non-FTA Countries, North America's Capacity to Double by 2028
Sep 3, 2024, 01:45 PM
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has authorized Mexico's 1.4 million tonnes per year Altamira LNG export terminal to export cargoes produced from US gas to countries without a free trade agreement with the US. This marks the first non-FTA LNG export permit issued since a pause, granted to New Fortress Energy's Fast LNG Asset, according to Argus. North America's LNG export capacity is projected to more than double between 2024 and 2028, increasing from 11.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) to 24.4 Bcf/d, sufficient to consume over 60% of all US dry gas, as reported by the EIA. This expansion is contingent on the completion of LNG terminals currently under construction.
