Greater Manchester Launches AI Cameras on Mancunian Way to Monitor Drivers
Sep 5, 2024, 07:06 AM
Greater Manchester has launched AI cameras to monitor drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts, starting September 3rd. Developed by Australian company Acusensus, the technology aims to enhance road safety. The initiative follows a similar implementation in Devon and Cornwall, where AI cameras caught 800 mobile offences and over 2,000 seatbelt violations, including 109 children, in July and August. The AI cameras are being deployed on the Mancunian Way. The move is part of a broader effort to enforce Highway Code rules more strictly, potentially leading to harsher fines for violations.
