Colorado's Travis Hunter Wins AP Player of the Year, Bednarik, and Biletnikoff Awards
Dec 13, 2024, 02:16 AM
Travis Hunter, a standout two-way player for the University of Colorado, has been named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year, receiving 26 of the 43 votes from a panel of AP Top 25 voters. Hunter, who plays both as a wide receiver and cornerback, has also won the Chuck Bednarik Award for the best defensive player in college football and the Fred Biletnikoff Award for the top receiver. His accolades include the Walter Camp Award for the second consecutive year, making him the first player ever to win both the Bednarik and Biletnikoff Awards. Hunter's performance this season included 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense, and defensively, he recorded four interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and forced a crucial fumble. He is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, where he is the odds-on favorite to win. His achievements have drawn comparisons to past two-way stars like Charles Woodson and Deion Sanders, his current coach. Hunter's success has helped the Colorado Buffaloes secure a 9-3 record and a spot in the Alamo Bowl against BYU.
