Delta Air Lines Cancels Over 5,500 Flights Due to Cyber Outage Involving CrowdStrike, Microsoft
Jul 22, 2024, 01:57 PM
Delta Air Lines has canceled thousands of flights since last Friday due to a global cyber outage caused by a faulty software update. The Atlanta-based carrier canceled around 1,000 flights on Sunday and more than 600 flights on Monday, bringing the total number of cancellations to over 5,500. The outage, which affected numerous industries and involved CrowdStrike and Microsoft systems, has left tens of thousands of passengers stranded and has drawn attention from the federal government. Despite efforts to restore normal operations, Delta continues to face significant disruptions, even as other airlines begin to recover from the incident. CEO Ed Bastian has apologized, offering frequent flyer miles to affected passengers.
