The United States has decided to supply anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine amidst intensified fighting in the eastern region of the country. This move aims to bolster Ukraine's defenses against Russia's increasing offensive. The decision has drawn criticism from human rights groups, as Ukraine is a signatory to the Ottawa Treaty, which bans the use of such mines. The Pentagon confirmed the shipment, acknowledging the controversial nature of the explosive weapon, given that over 160 countries have signed the international treaty prohibiting its use. Additionally, the U.S. and the U.K. are providing long-range missiles to support Ukraine's efforts. The White House also approved the shipment of landmines for the first time in this war.
