Over 300,000 in London Join Global Protests for Palestine on Anniversary of October 7 Attacks
Oct 5, 2024, 06:27 PM
Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in cities worldwide on October 5th to mark the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks in Israel and express solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon. Demonstrations took place in over 50 cities, including London, Paris, Madrid, Cape Town, Toronto, New York City, Los Angeles, Dublin, and Washington D.C. Protesters called for a ceasefire, an end to Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, and for governments to halt arms supplies to Israel. In London, over 300,000 people marched from Russell Square to Whitehall, with the Metropolitan Police conducting a significant operation and making 17 arrests. Some protesters held signs expressing support for Hezbollah and Hamas. Similar large-scale protests occurred across Europe and the United States, with participants demanding an end to what they describe as genocide and apartheid. Law enforcement agencies in the U.S. issued warnings about potential violence around the anniversary. In Toronto, protesters gathered at Yonge-Dundas Square before marching up Yonge Street.
