China's Ministry of Water Resources raised its emergency response to floods in Guangdong and Hainan from Level-IV to Level-III on Thursday due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi. The popular tourist island province of Hainan moved over 418,000 people as the super typhoon made landfall in Wenchang, leading to the closure of all 89 A-level tourist attractions, schools, businesses, and most public transport, Xinhua reported. The southern island province of Hainan upgraded its emergency response to the highest level. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters also raised its emergency response in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Friday. Chinese President Xi Jinping has demanded efforts to ensure the safety of people's lives and property, urging beefed-up disaster relief efforts and mobilizing rescue operations to handle relocation, prevent secondary disasters, and minimize casualties.
