Cathay Pacific Grounds 48 Airbus A350s After Rolls-Royce Engine Issues, Cancels 68 Flights
Sep 3, 2024, 03:46 AM
Cathay Pacific Airways has initiated a fleet-wide inspection of its Airbus A350 aircraft following the in-flight failure of an engine component. The issue, identified as a failure in the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB turbofan engines, has led the airline to ground all 48 of its A350 jets as a precautionary measure. Consequently, Cathay Pacific has canceled 68 flights, including almost all scheduled flights from Hong Kong to Singapore. The engine component failure, described as the first of its kind, occurred on flight CX383 to Zurich, which had to turn back. Rolls-Royce, the engine manufacturer, has seen its shares fall as a result. Deformed or degraded fuel lines are suspected to be the cause of the engine issues. Other airlines operating similar engines have not yet been instructed to carry out inspections.
