One Dead, 16 Injured—including Students—in Shooting at Tuskegee University's 100th Homecoming; Suspect with Machine Gun Arrested
Nov 10, 2024, 07:00 PM
An early Sunday morning shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama left one person dead and 16 others injured, including students, according to university officials and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The incident occurred during the historically Black university's 100th homecoming week celebrations, casting a grim pall over the festivities. Authorities reported that 12 people suffered gunshot wounds, while four sustained injuries unrelated to gunfire. The person who was killed was not affiliated with the university. Later, a 25-year-old Montgomery man, identified as Jaquez Myrick, was arrested and charged with possession of a machine gun after being found in possession of a handgun modified with a machine gun conversion device while leaving the area of the shooting. However, officials did not confirm if he was a suspect in the shooting, and the suspects remain at large. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation and has not released a motive.
